Welcome to Mechanical Engineering Department

Thank you for your interest in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Wayne State University. Located in the automotive capital of the world, the area has an intellectual culture that is a magnet for world-class mechanical engineering talent.

Mechanical engineering is a creative discipline drawing on basic sciences to design devices, machines, processes and systems that involve mechanical work and its conversion from, and into, different forms of energy, including advanced automotive propulsion systems. The department allows ready access to world-class researchers during the early years of education, permitting rich opportunities to combine theory and practice in order to produce a well balanced and highly recruited engineering graduate.

Our nationally respected, full-time faculty members teach the majority of the classes taken by our undergraduates, providing the proper balance of sound basic knowledge and cutting edge technological insight necessary  to produce strong technological leaders. Numerous opportunities also exist for undergraduate students to enrich their education by performing research within major technology areas such as combustion engines, advanced materials and acoustics

We invite you to enter our Web site where you will find information on admission standards, curriculum and courses, and degree requirements. Also available are faculty profiles with detailed information about research interests and specialties, teaching, and contact information. Take time to explore the Web site and, if you have any further questions or require more information, please feel free to contact me.
